Trustworthy AI Lab

While the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has opened up new horizons, it also raised unique challenges. In order to comprehend the true implications of AI, we must delve beyond mere innovation and strive to ensure that AI technology is utilized ethically, conscientiously, and in a manner that fosters sustainability. There is a pressing need to expand our awareness of the best practices that underpin the concept of Trustworthy AI.
The Trustworthy AI in Practice lab at the DY Patil College of Engineering, Akurdi Campus will be an interdisciplinary and international research community to evaluate and discuss the mindful use of artificial intelligence (#MUAI) as part of the Z-Inspection® Initiative. The Z-Inspection® approach is a validated assessment method that helps deliver ethically sustainable, evidence-based, trustworthy, and user-friendly AI-driven solutions. The method is published in IEEE Transactions on Technology and Society. The Lab connects academia, industry, and the community, including developers of AI solutions, students, end-users, researchers, and stakeholders, offering the possibility of training, and doing research.
Z-Inspection® is distributed under the terms and conditions of the Creative Commons (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike CC BY-NC-SA) license.
We closely collaborate with the international Z-Inspection® Initiative network. The Z-Inspection® assessment method for Trustworthy AI is an approach based on the Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI by the European Commission High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence. Z-Inspection® is listed in the new OECD Catalogue of AI Tools & Metrics.

Lessons Learned in Performing a Trustworthy AI and Fundamental Rights Assessment.

“Responsible use of AI” Pilot Project with the Province of Fryslân, Rijks ICT Gilde & the Z-Inspection® Initiative.

The pilot project took place from May 2022 through January 2023. During the pilot, the practical application of a deep learning algorithm from the province of Frŷslan was assessed. The AI maps heathland grassland by means of satellite images for monitoring nature reserves.

Quoting our report:

“This report is made public. The results of this pilot are of great importance for the Dutch government, serving as a best practice with which public administrators can get started, and incorporate ethical and human rights values when considering the use of an AI system and/or algorithms. It also sends a strong message to encourage public administrators to make the results of AI assessments like this one, transparent and available to the public.”
