Message: Coordinator R&D
Research and Development (R and D) is a prime objective of D Y Patil College of Engineering (DYPCOE). It is the foundation of the continuing education to create the knowledge for all disciplines. It directly contributes towards the enhancement of the society as whole considering health, culture, economic development and the advancement of nation.
R and D at DYPCOE encompasses by the principles of honesty, integrity, trust, accountability and stewardship; meets high scientific and ethical standards; and is conducted with honest and thoughtful inquiry, rigorous analysis, and accountability for the use of professional standards for the benefit of society.
Research is a precursor to discovery and innovation. DYPCOE recognizing the importance of research, has initiated rigorous R & D activities in the institute. We have envisioned becoming a well-known name in research and development activities. Our immediate goal is to encourage excellence in research, publications and Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) activities at Department as well as Institute level. We are self-motivated to publish quality research results in National and International Conferences and Journals.
To enrich the Learning Process among the faculties and students, we host Seminars and Workshops, Conferences of well-known personalities from Academia and Industries.
The R & D Cell is also getting inputs from Industries and funding Agencies.
I, as the Coordinator of Research and Development Cell, invite all the students joining the Institute at graduate, post graduate and doctorate level to make use of the facilities and resources offered by the Institute to nurture their talent and contribute their ideas for the growth of R & D Culture.

About Research & Development Cell
In a world increasingly propelled by technology, university research is the foundation of any nation's economic growth. D Y Patil College of Engineering, Akurdi is committed to basic long-term research in frontier areas.
Research & Development (R&D) Cell is established in February 2017 to promote research-based teaching-learning thereby preparing students for successful careers. The activities of R&D Cell include- Development of PhD Research Centres, Faculty & Students Training and Support Programs, Recognition of Research Production, Encouragement of Faculty Collaboration, Balanced Teaching & Research Responsibilities, etc. The R&D Cell is committed to technology-driven collaborations and linking the academic research with teaching curriculum. The R&D team consists of one member from each Department called Department Research Coordinator (DRC).
Objectives of R&D Cell
- To create and maintain research conducive environment
- To promote research and innovation culture among faculty and students
- To interact with R&D organization and institute
- To enhance quality of UG and PG project
- To establish centers of excellence and innovation labs

- 25 Faculty with PhD and 18 Faculty pursuing PhD
- 8 PG programs and 2 PhD programs supporting research & innovation culture
- Support faculty and students to publish quality papers and patents
- R&D cell is supported by department Heads and department coordinators
- Active research groups in all departments
- Sessions on project selection and execution
- Research activities in departments to promote research & innovation
- Inter-department student research groups
Expected Outcomes of R&D Cell
- Enhanced number of research proposals, quality publications and patents
- Enhanced interaction with R&D organizations and institutes
- Improved quality of UG and PG project
- Awareness in students about recent advances and developments in science, engineering and technology
- Enhanced involvement of faculty and students to solve industrial and societal problems
- Enhanced participation of students in national and international innovation activities like India Innovation Challenge Design Contest, NES Innovation Awards, Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI)-SRISTI etc
Action Plan for Achieving Outcomes
- Monitoring and guiding faculty to obtain research grant from various funding agencies viz. DST/AICTE/UGC/CSIR etc.
- Formulate policies for encouragement of R&D culture in the institute
- Lesioning with R&D organization / institute and establish MOU with them
- Guidance and support to faculty / students for getting quality publication and patents
- R&D cell is supported by department Heads and department coordinators
- Active research groups in all departments and organizing various research promotion activities though research groups
- Organization expert sessions on project selection and execution, writing proposals, writing research papers and drafting patent
